Social dynamics – how the tones do it…

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Now as you might have guessed I’m a deftones fan… a big deftones fan. Now they don’t usually do a lot of marketing/advertising. At least not in Denmark. However for the release of their new album, they have been trying to create a sort of social media carrousel. How does this work you ask?  Now as a fan I follow them on twitter. So what happens is that I get a twitter post stating that some new piece of content is available – I click on the link which takes me to deftones Facebook page, here is a short description of the content, which then again links to their Youtube channel, where they stream the content.

I’ve noticed that to feed this they have developed new pieces of content that they would not have done previously, eg. a “Lyric” video for their new single – Diamond Eyes. What is that? Well excactly what they say it is. A Video with the lyrics printed on it. Or more importently a reason to talk to the fans.

They did exactly the same for their first video – Rocked Skates and for the initial free download of Rocket Skates (from www.deftones.com). And to download the mp3 you had to retweet that you could download the mp3 for free… Complicated – not really. Smart, well yes. STP just did the same just to stream their new single. Smart, not so much.

Anyways I find it quite interesting the way all this works. Let me know if you all have some cool examples of Social Media.

Here are a few os the deftones links:

Congrats Obama!

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

So Obama’s Health Care reform went through. It will be really interesting to see the actual implications on the reform which has been kind of blurred even to the most faithful Democrats. Anyway, this video explains the implications of not acting and is kind of cool in its simplicity.

Deftones use Twitter and facebook to promote video and itunes…interestingly

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

…is that a word… Anyways what they did was tweet (to their followers) that the new video was now available for free download.. click here -  which refers you to facebook where you access a download page. Now in order to get the free download (HD quality) you need to retweet the original message. Now that generates wom, while selling singles and letting people see the video – which is cool.

Google Buzz

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Once again Google launched a new service and there is a lot of buzz about Google Buzz. Which is as I understand it a tool which allows you to start conversations with your friends, share stuff etc. within the gmail environment.

So I woke up today and logged on to my gmail account to try it out. Well, a bit disappointed I realized they haven’t equipped my account with the buzz button yet.

So did anybody out there try it yet – and is the buzz worth all the buzz?

iPad revealed by Mr. Jobs

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

So it was the Apple Table or iPad as they chose to call it. I must admit it looks pretty cool. Its supposed to be the holder of apps, videos, photos and books. I predict that it will at least revolutionize the book market 500%. Fuck Kindle and all the other crappy digi-book readers. This is the ticket. Its supposed to be excellent for surfing the net and reading and writing emails also… We’ll see. I have few reservations or doubts when it comes to Apple living up to expectations these days. Good to see Steve back in good health too.

How we connect through communication

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Ji Lee, an extremely gifted New York based graphic designer, who I had the pleasure of meeting 4 years ago while attending the amazing conference GEL (=Good Experience Live), has created an illustration of 10 Levels of Intimacy in Communication.

The illustration shows how the digital age has transformed the ways in which we communicate with each other. Today, we are connected with more people than ever before.

Check out Ji Lee’s other work on his website PleaseEnjoy.

The Wave is here!

Friday, November 27th, 2009

‘Hello?
”Anybody knows what to do here?’
”This looks like the loneliest place in the world’

Are some of the common phrases I’ve read among my Google Wave friends.
The wave is here and I jumped onboard  a couple of days ago as a beta-tester. Quite a few friends have joined the wave too and we are all still trying to find out its potential: Will this be the killer app replacing e-mail and all the other digital online platforms or is this just a not that userfriendly hype?

LET ME IN
What took me by surprise was how fast peope picked up on the Wave eventhough there is still a lack of critical mass. I started out with 8 open invites so my friends and network could join. These were quickly distributed. Two days after I received another 8, and I posted an open invitation on my Facebook status. Within less than an hour the invitations were all gone. One of my Facebook friends even texted me to be sure he was let in.
