Aardvark answers questions using Social Media network
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009Line G from geeksontheinside showed me this. I am currently testing it. It seems really cool. How does it work?
Aardvark finds people, not web pages, to answer any question. At www.vark.com you can ask any question in plain English, and Aardvark will discover the perfect person in your network to answer. You’ll get their response in under 5 minutes!

Clever – check it out.

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009Are viral campaigns great just because they’re viral?
Monday, September 14th, 2009Like a terrorist group finally taking responsibility for a bombattack, VisitDenmark fianlly took responsebility for the video of beatyful, sweet and almost innoncent Karen who fooled us all in a YouTube video where she asked the world to help her find the man who made her pregnant a year and a half ago. I was one of the suckers who fell in love with the story and I must admit I felt pretty stupid last night when the news brought an interview with the responsable from VisitDenmark.
However, looking at this from a marketingperspective; is this gonna work? Is this a good idea? You can’t argue that they’ve had the viral effect they hoped for, but is it a good effect? I find it hard to find the consumerinsights that has gone into the making of this campaign. Will the rest of the world find Denmark an atractive place to be because a woman like “Karen” copes well here as a single mom? or will Visitdenmark mainly get bad puplicity out of this quite tasteless and “hard to read campaign”. It will defenitly be interesting to follow.
And afterall, Denmark is already such a popular place, with our rightwing policy and high taxes, so what harm can a fake girl who got knocked up with a fake baby and told a fake story, possibly do…

WHOANY – a Spoof
Monday, August 24th, 2009Just want to share this spoof: Whoany – a fashion blog making fun of the popular Danish blog Anywho. Whereas Anywho has around 80.000 visitors per month, I’m not sure how many visits whoany’s got but it is increasingly popular.
So far it is only in Danish but the pictures are still great fun.

Literally hilarious
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009Here’s a new YouTube trend: Remakes of old music videos, where the video stays the same but the singing has changed into what it is literally about.
E.g. the band A-ha’s video: ‘Take on Me’ has been changed from: ‘Take on me. Take me on, I’ll be gone – In a day or two’ to:’Come to me. Magic frame. Sing to you. Band montage’.
It is very well done and really fun! I particularly love the literal version of Meat loaf’s ‘Anything for Love’, so thanks Jakob for showing me this new trend (Jakob, who used to be a keen contributor to this blog himself)

If you know of any others, do tell!
Enjoy and have a nice summer!

Ehhh…Green Taco Bell?
Wednesday, July 15th, 2009Everything is fake
Saturday, May 23rd, 2009Well as you may know I’m in the midst of writing a book on how Branding is affected by all the new technologies, specifically social media and Branded Utility. In this process I have, to my great pleasure revisited som of the old Post Modern writers. WOW. They just saw all this 30 years ago. A guy like Baudrillard talks about how everything becomes reproductions or fakes of the original which no longer exists because of the mass media reproduction and redefinition of cultural and social symbols. In my mind this really echoes everything from peer-to-peer file sharing to look-a-like goths or other sub/pop cultures to the state of music to advertising, social media, viral comms, etc. It’s all happening:-)
Please read Simulacra and Simulation if you have not already – Its really worth a read.
