Social Media Save the Queen

Hello – another gem from our friend Lachlan Williams from down under. Is Social Media the new Punk?

I dunno. I like the video though. Especially the Oz accent.

Jeez there is so much wrong with this I don’t even know where to start. When it started Punk was a minuscule niche with a tiny amount of core followers based solely in London. They did not call themselves punks. Punk was a term invented by the media as a convenient collective term for a few bands who had sprung up and started gigging without really being able to play. It was all about self expression but they were actually manipulated from the start.

New Wave was not “invented by the corporates” (again, apart from the term). It was a hand full of bands who had become bored of the idea of everyone being able to make music regardless of talent, and the numerous amount of crap bands that had jumped on that bandwagon. Talking Heads, Television etc took the anarchic ethos at the heart of punk and applied Art to it.

If you’re going to create a (really rather lame) metaphor it’s a good idea to have a basic knowledge of the facts, not just some cobbled together assumptions.

I’ve had a quick look at your site, it looks very interesting. Maybe you’d like to send a synopsis through for us to publish for you? Please make it as factual as possible and include a short bio of yourself and a link to your site at the end.
